Google Authenticator is a free App which helps you to add an extra layer of security on your online services like

  • Social Media Platforms – Facebook, X, Instagram etc.
  • Email Service Providers – Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo etc.
  • Could Services – Drop Box and One Drive etc.
  • Financial Services – Stripe, PayPal etc.

Requisite for Installing Google Authenticator App

Open any application like Gmail and click “Manage your Google Account setting”

Go to “Security” and click on 2-Step Verification

Now, click on Turn on 2-Step Verification blue button, this will inform Google that you want to setup a 2-Step verification system in your login workflow

Now, click on Authenticator from the below list

Then click on “Set up Authenticator”

After this you will get a QR code on the screen like this

Before proceeding make sure you have Google Authenticator App in your mobile phone. In your mobile phone you should be logged into your Google Account for which you want Google Authenticator

How to Setup Google Authenticator on phone

Open the Google Authenticator App in your mobile phone, You will see the page as below. Click on the plus symbol present at the bottom right corner of the screen and select “Scan a QR code”

Now, just scan the QR code you got in above steps and if asked follow the steps. You will get a screen with a one time password as shown below and it has to be entered when ever login in a new device.
